Master's Research Programs
CLIMATE CHANGE AND ENERGY
MRP-CCE
Monday 12th June 2017 I had started to do trainee ship in Laboratory of optics, spectroscopy and Science of Atmosphere, LOSSA of Mali, with Souleymane Sanogo,PhD ,Meteorology and Climate Science.
I am learning the software N CL that I will use to do the analysis of my data analysis.
Topic: A System Dynamics Modelling Approach to Energy Planning and Climate Change in Nigeria.
Research activities subdivided into three (3) sections
Data mining/acquisition
Modeling
Purchase of modeling software STELLA.
Data mining and accusation
Data mining i.e. obtaining data from the Nigerian Transmission Company (NTC) and the Nigeria Electricity System Operator’s web site and other related power sector websites. Also energy data accusation from the National Control Center (NCC) on invitation is ongoing.
Modeling
Development of conceptual framework of Nigeria electricity sector to be used in my model is finalized and available to commence the systems energy model building.
Purchase of modeling software STELLA.
Processes involve in purchasing STELLA software to be used for the modeling is ongoing from isee system, Lebanon US. Which should be ready any time soon.
NB: No available pictures to the modeling for now, as it is still in the developing phase.

Plant at Center for Energy and Research development Ile Ife, Nigeria
As recommended, by the advisory board to add a micro hydropower plant to my Hybrid System. In that way, the rivers that have a potential for micro-hydropower were assessed. 6 sites were found to be suitable for micro-hydropower potential and they are all in the Northern parts of Benin. In order to model a micro-hydro in HOMER, the discharge data of those rivers is required, which I will only get on Thursday.
In addition, the data collection is on-going, but the administrative process making it taking long. By the grace of GOD, the field survey will start by the end of this week.
On Wednesday, 14th June 2017 in Cote d'Ivoire, I had a meeting with Prof. Arona, where we had exchanged on the research topic and we agreed to use the software MAED for the projection of electricity demand.
On Wednesday 21rd June 2017, presentation of the proposal of my topic in front of the research committee within the competence center in Ouagadougou.
Activity at the Competence Centre Until 27th June 2017
As part of the 2-month internship at the competence Centre in Ouagadougou, we have been received well by the director of the Competence Centre and also the coordinator of the internship program, Dr. Aymar Bossa. Unfortunately, since we came we have not met most of the scientists here because we are told most of them are on leave as a principal reason and also our number being just two. However, as part of the activities for the internship, we made a presentation of our research proposals to the coordinator of the internship and his assistant. He advised us in his capacity, how he thinks we can improve our research and he promised to take us for a field trip next month and also to introduced as to some of the scientists here who can assist us when they are less busy or return from their respective leaves. This is majorly the only activity we have had until now but we on our own are also engaging ourselves in reviewing a lot of literature on our respective works. We are also identifying data collection centres on our own and interacting with our supervisor.
We look forward to the arrival of our mate Hadiza, and hope the second and last month of our internship is will be more fruitful.
I have started to build my model and collecting data. I have data from NIGELEC, Hydrology Minister, and Population Minister. This attachment is my first model
Our work is going very well.currently we are learning ArcGIS and collecting some data which we are going to use for our work.we plan for the next week to follow the course of GIS which will be given by my co-suppervisor at AGRIMET.
Brief report on my field work in Lomé, Togo
Week 06/06/2017
In the beginning of this week, I met my main supervisor Dr Lare, Associate Professor in his office at the University of Lomé, department of physics.
We have discussed on the following points:
Plan of actions
Procedures of acquiring data from CEET, company in charge of electricity distribution (Call of an CEET agent by Dr Lare to be informed about it)
Writing a letter to the Director of CEET for asking data and their collaboration
Visit to laboratories at the department of physics and chemistry to identify the installed air conditioner for the purpose of conducting an experience of measuring their consumption.
After I met the Coordinator of MRP-HS to inform him about my field work and the possibility of receiving a letter from their administration for data collection in CEET.
On 07/06/2017, I received 50% of my budget.
On that very week, my supervisor has called the Director of the Service in charge of equipment at University of Lomé for their help and collaboration in order to be able to conduct the experience on electricity consumption of air conditioner and refrigerator at the University.
Another event, I met the Director of MRP-HS, Professor KOKOU and presented to him my thesis’s topic. To facilitate my data collection, he has recommended me to the CEET. Which letter I have deposited in the afternoon of that day at the directory of the company.
Week 12/06/2017
Dr Lare called back the Director of DGDU about our request. We have been waiting for the feedback from CEET and DGDU.
I started looking for the good shop to buy my camera and hard disk. I found solution for internet connection and I started also the literature revue, especially on rebound effect, World Energy Outlook and World Energy Model.
Week 19/06/2017
Dr Lare called back again his contact at CEET and the Director of DGDU.
In order to be recommended for the survey, I wrote a draft of letter to the Dean of the Faculty of Human Science and Society.
There has been a meeting with the Director of DGDU, the Responsible of electric equipment at DGDU, Dr Lare and his colleague Dr Amou and me. The purpose of this meeting was to present clearly what we need from DGDU and together we identified the equipment and the places they can be found for the success of our experiment on electric equipment’s electricity consumption.
To continue following up the letter sent to the CEET, we sent a copy of the letter to a contact we have in the company.
In this week I have been able to buy a hard disk and a camera.
More, we have visited the secretaries of physics and mathematics departments to identify their refrigerators (pictures below).
Furthermore, I have received from my second supervisor, Dr Yacouba who is also in all time available for me, a helpful Stella Model which I may use for my work.
Week 26/06/2017
I have met the Director of MPRP-HS and I have presented to him the evolution of my work and a need of recommendation for the survey. As usual, with pleasure he accepted and wrote a letter to the Dean of Faculty of Human Science and Society(FHSS) under which is MRP-HS.
Again, Dr Lare called back the CEET and DGDU agents about our requests and fortunately, I was introduced to the Human Resources Directory at CEET. So they started the process of granting me an internship, the only way in their procedures to allow me to get the data I need for the thesis.
Also for the purpose of doing a professional survey, we contacted the Director of a cabinet, Case-Afrique, for his cabinet services (a good questionnaire, personnel recruitment, survey conducting, and data analysis.
We bought electricity meter, time switch and accessories. These will help to measure the electricity consumed by air conditioners (one new and one old) and refrigerators (new brand and old one). Example of installation for the experiment.
Time switch
My field progress report is as follow:
1- Meeting with my supervisor on 1st/06/2017 for work planning.
2- On 16th/06/2017, I went to the Ministry of Energy (BF) for informations and data collection about present and future implementation of solar plant project.
3- On 1st/07/2017/, I wrote some pages of literature review summary and sent it to my supervisor for correction.
4- Since 3th/08/2017, I'm working on climate data using and interpretation. (training).
