After the two batches in Master Research Programme in Climate change and Energy (MRP-CCE), the WASCAL Doctoral Research Programme in West African Climate System is pleased to announce for application for its first batch of students to the study of Ph.D. Research Programme, Doctoral Research Programme in Climate Change And Energy (DRP-CCE), at the University Abdou Moumouni of Niamey, Niger, under the Capacity Building Programme of West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL),with funding from the German Ministry of Education and Research( BMBF).
WASCAL is a wholly West African international organization with focus on academic and transdisciplinary research, building graduate-level scientific capacity and serving policy makers in West Africa with science-based advice on adaptation to climate change impacts and land use management. It cooperates with many agencies and universities in the region, providing a knowledge platform of excellence for its partners. WASCAL is funded by BMBF, multilateral and bilateral partners and its 11 West African member countries, namely: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, The Gambia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal and Togo.
WASCAL’s mission is to provide information and knowledge services at the local, national and regional levels to West African member countries to cope with the adverse impacts of climate change. We do this through capacity building support to young West African scholars in fields of climate, natural and social sciences and by delivering climate and environmental services in member countries. Potential candidates are invited to submit an application for selection.
On Saturday, March 16, 2019, a conference was held on "The Impact of Training and Development Research: Practical Cases" led by Professor Paul W SAVADOGO, Research Master at the Institute of the Environment and agricultural research (INERA) and environmental engineering and sustainable development (IGEDD). Professor Paul W SAVADOGO is also National Member of Parliament, President of the Commission CJEEC-Burkina Faso at WASCAL premises with WAC-SRT students from Abdou Moumouni University in Niamey.
The conference focused on:
• The impact of training on development;
• The impact of research on development
• The induced effects of training and research on the transformation of individuals and the community.
• IGEDD case:
• The assignment of research by researchers, particularly in light of real problems in our environment.
• Strengthening the capacity for analysis, search for solutions and technological means in African scientific training institutions.
A discussion was then held on the content of the conference and finally some advices was provided by Professor Paul SAVADOGO to students.
CALL FOR APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION AND GERMAN ACADEMIC EXCHANGE SERVICE (DAAD) SCHOLARCSHIPS FOR AN INTEGRATED MASTER PROGRAM FOR SUSTAINABLE TRANSFORMATION OF RURAL AREA (2 YEARS)
Through the present call, Abdou Moumouni University of Niamey is launching the second batch of its four semesters, two years Master Program for Sustainable Transformation of Rural Area for the academic year 2019-2020. The program provides full scholarship to successful candidates from West African countries. Places (05) are also available for free paying candidate responding to the recruitment academic conditions. Potential candidates are invited to submit an application for selection.

Trasdiciplinarity for Sustainable Rural, Transformation in West Africa
USD WA CAMPPUS, BAMAHU, TAMALE- GHANA; 1st - 30th June 2019
The West African School for Sustainable Rural Transformation took place in WA campus of the University for Development Studies from 3rd of June to 29th June. It brought together students form three post graduate programs that are under the sponsorship of the DAAD. This month long program was aimed at opening network opportunities for young scholars to learn the experiences and viewpoints of different people from different backgrounds. The program was a mix of both academic and social events. The students were drawn from the MPhil program in Development Management in WA Campus, MPhil Agriculture Economics from Nyankpala campus and Integrated Master Program in Sustainable Rural Transformation from Abodou Moumouni University in Niamey, Niger. The tutors and lecturers were also a mix of experts from diverse fields and from the different institutions. To give students a practical overview of how rural transformation is carried out, resource persons from the NGO field and personnel from the district assembly planning departments presented their works
Various themes were explored for the purpose of instilling in students the desire to champion rural transformation within the West African context. The first week of the program featured the theme: Introduction to Sustainable Development and Rural Development. Several courses were taught that centered on the various dimensions and practices of sustainable development/transformation. This week also witnessed a resources person from an NGO called CIKOD (Centre for Indigenous Knowledge and Organizational Development). The facilitator gave insights into the operations of the organization. CIKOD is engaged in the areas of food sovereignty, endogenous institutional support, eco WASH and agro ecology. The organization also deals in other crosscutting themes such as gender and generational inequality, governance and advocacy and knowledge management.
