The process was been divided into two steps: i) applications examination to establish a short list and ii) interviews for the final decision. A total of 33 students (27 males and 6 females) from different countries including Niger, Benin, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Nigeria and Burkina Faso have applied for this WAC-SRT scholarship .
Out of the selection, the panel has selected the second batch 2019-2021 students both from Niger and other West African applicants for the WAC-SRT IMP program. In total, ten (10) applicants have been selected from 18 pre-selected candidates. At the end, regarding the number and the quality of the applications from Niger, the committee has proposed a new distribution of students between Niger and Others countries. Indeed, the number of students from Niger is reduces in order to increase the number of foreign students up from tree (3) to four (4). Then, the committee has divided the six (6) positions of Niger into four (4) positions for the engineering track and tow (2) positions for the policy track. For foreign candidates issued from others West African countries, one (1) position for engineering track and two positions for the policy track. However, this proposition needs a little management on the budget.
In the wake of rapid urbanization in Developing Countries, city authorities in Africa have struggled to keep pace with urban water supply demands of the urban population and thus, leading to inequities in urban water access.
This project draws on the suitability of transdisciplinary and multi-stakeholder research approaches, for first, fostering an integrated and holistic understanding of this phenomenon in the cities of Wa and Niamey in Ghana and Niger, respectively and secondly, for engendering co-designing of policy and strategic interventions for improving urban water supply and access in same.
Hence, the overall project goal and design is to explore how multi-stakeholders and decision makers at the local level can improve their knowledge and awareness of the urban water situation, and change their attitudes and capacity in support of a multi-stakeholder management approach to improving capacity and management of decentralized urban water services for achieving inclusive access to water for urban populations, particularly, women, children and the poor in the cities of Wa (Ghana) and Niamey (Niger) in West Africa.
